In 2004, the Colombian company Tecnologica Intercontinental (Ticsa) was awarded the 20-year contract to build and operate the wastewater treatment plant named PTAR Itzicuaros (Morelia, state of Michoacan). Information on the awarding process by the state government was not available. In November 2003, the sponsor had established the special purpose company Aquasol Morelia S.A. de C.V. to lead the project. The treatment plant was initially established with 1200 liters/second or 103.7 m3/day in capacity (Phase I - ID# 3310), and became operational in 2007. The second phase envisaged the expansion of the capacity by an additional 210 liters/second or 18.1 m3/day. The investment in the second phase was estimated at US$ 11.3 million (Pesos 140.4 million). Construction works commenced in August 2011 and were concluded in December 2013. A total of 90,000 people benefitted from the project.
