Morocco - Ain Beni Mathar Solar Thermal Power Plant Project

The Ain Beni Mathar (ABM) solar thermal power plant project is designed to increase access to electricity through the promotion of renewable energies, with a view to supporting economic growth, rural electrification and the competitiveness of Moroccan companies. The project fits in perfectly with the strategic axes of the national policy. The ABM power plant project promotes the development of new generation activities by ensuring the supply of electricity. It also supports the preservation and development of employment, and reduces the long-term isolation of both regions and rural populations. At the national level, the project should contribute to the modernization of major infrastructure networks and the strengthening of the competitiveness of Moroccan enterprises in the economic field, these two points being two major priorities of the Government. The project comprises nine (9) main components, namely: (A) Electricity power plant; (B) 225/60KV distribution and transmission lines; (C) Substations; (D) Access roads; (E) Procurement of land; (F) Boreholes; (G) Connection to Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline (GME); (H) Environmental and social measures; and (I) Consultancy services.
