Morocco - Education Project V

The fifth education project in Morocco responds to the Government's objectives set out in the Guidance Note for the Five-Year Plan 1993-1997 and which are in line with the implementation of the reform undertaken in 1985 and the new national guidelines for socio-economic development. The project as a whole is justified by the fact that it will contribute to complete the implementation of the reform of the education system initiated by the government. This will enable it to solve the problems facing the education and training sector. It is subsequent to four previous Bank Group-financed operations in the education sector in Morocco. The project, which is planned to be implemented over a five-year period, comprises the following seven (7) components: (i) Improvement of the quality of basic and Secondary education; (ii) Development of Secondary Education; (iii) Improvement of the effectiveness of Tertiary Education; (iv) Promotion of environmental Education; (v) Strengthening of Population Education; (vi) Literacy Education for Women in Rural Areas; and (vii) Programme Implementation Unit. The total cost excluding taxes and customs is estimated at UA 48.49 million.
