Morocco - Quality Basic Education Support Project

The Project for Supporting Quality Basic Education was identified in 1997 and prepared under the Social Priorities Program, known as BAJ. The project constitutes a significant effort for the generalization of basic education in Morocco. It provides an appropriate response to the problems that affect the qualitative development of the Moroccan education system through the creation of the National Institute for Research and Pedagogical Development. The project covers rural areas at the national level. By focusing on the rural areas, it intends to contribute to the alleviation of poverty through the quality basic education that will be provided to children, girls and boys, who otherwise would have been deprived of it, in order to enable them to acquire the basic knowledge necessary for their harmonious integration into society. The project will contribute to reducing the inequalities in access to basic education that still affect the populations, particularly women, in rural and peri-urban areas of the country while promoting the effective participation of local authorities in financing and to the management of basic education. The interventions will be spread out over a period of four years, around the following components: (i) Extension of the network of colleges in rural areas; (ii) Support to the quality of education and educational innovations; (iii) Strengthening the project executing agency.
