The Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban is undergoing a comprehensive refurbishment costing R284 million. The project started on March 28, 2024, and is expected to be completed by 2027 after an extension of 30 months due to structural complications. The refurbishment includes emergency remedial work on the concrete and roof structure, upgrades to structural steel painting, sky car, infrastructure, lighting, arch cladding, audio visual system, and adventure features such as a big swing, zipline, and viewing platform. New features like a cantilevered glass floor viewing platform, an accessible sky car, a big swing, a zip line ending at People’s Park, and a compression ring walk with panoramic views will be introduced. The project aims to maintain the stadium as a premier venue for sports, concerts, and cultural events while supporting local job creation and small businesses.
