Description | The Mosquito Road Bridge is a 1,200-ft.-long cast-in-place balanced cantilever bridge standing 400 ft. above the South Fork of the American River gorge in the Sierra Nevada foothills. The project replaces a smaller wooden suspension bridge built in 1939 and includes two 12-ft.-wide lanes with 5-ft. shoulders and a 54-in.-high barrier. It aims to meet modern transportation needs, support tourism, and improve emergency access. Unique construction techniques include segmental construction with modular traveling formwork and a remote batch plant for concrete supply due to the remote location. |
