Description

Description

Opportunity Mount Sinai Hospital is an internationally recognized 442-bed acute care academic health science centre affiliated with the University of Toronto. With roots dating back to 1922, the hospital has a reputation for excellence in genetic research, women’s and infant’s health, surgical oncology, gastrointestinal diseases, diabetes, general psychiatry, critical care, and cardiology.  Renew Sinai is a multi-year, multi-phased redevelopment project which will transform the hospital’s facilities. The redevelopment is the largest in the hospital’s history. Phase I, completed in 2012 using traditional procurement, involved construction of a six storey, 160,000 square-foot addition to house the Frances Bloomberg Centre for Women’s and Infant’s Health. Phase II, which was also procured traditionally, was completed in 2015 and resulted in a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Labour and Delivery Unit, and Antenatal units as well as a revitalized lobby and a RioCan food hall. Planning and design is now underway for Phase III A. Results The large-scale renovation of several key areas of Mount Sinai Hospital will include: Redevelopment of the Intensive Care Unit— increased beds by 50 per cent for a total of 36 beds; Doubled the size of the Emergency Department to 28,100 square feet, enabling Mount Sinai Hospital to accommodate expected increases in emergency patient volume— from 56,000 annually to an estimated 80,000 over the next few years; Expanded and redesigned Operating Rooms and Surgical Services including 18 new state-of-the-art operating rooms and a new robotics assisted suite with 3D imaging technology; An additional 28 medical/surgical inpatient beds were added; Redesign of some Ambulatory Care areas; and Redevelopment of a full-service, in-house Medical Devices Reprocessing Department.
