Mountain pastures open to the future

Alpine pastures are rich ecosystems of diversity resulting from an encounter between nature providing a spontaneous resource and the herds that have gone up there for centuries. These pastoral spaces are potentially at risk of abandonment resulting in a loss of diversity from open environments. The border areas concerned thus constitute a genuine natural and cultural heritage which must be preserved and valued. Today the alpine pasture represents a place of balance between production space, biodiversity and public reception (sports and leisure).In 2004, the Alpine Economic Societies of the cantons of Vaud, Valais Romand, Fribourg and Savoie created the French Alps network. Thirteen years after its creation, the reasons for the cooperation are still as strong.The partners of this project share the values of these communities and can speak with a common language: quality food productions and their recognition, know-how, social organisation of pastures, breeds constituting herds, written or musical culture, preservation of landscapes and wildlife.The partners propose to find themselves around a new border cooperation project that would ensure the preservation of the mountain pasture as a threatened ecosystem while ensuring sustainable territorial development based on natural and cultural heritage.
