Description | The Mountain Valley Pipeline is a 303-mile natural gas pipeline transporting gas from northern West Virginia through six Virginia counties to connect with a pipeline near the North Carolina line. Construction began in 2018 and the pipeline started transporting natural gas on June 14, 2024. The project includes restoration efforts along the pipeline route, particularly in mountainous terrain, to mitigate environmental impact. An extension project called Southgate is planned to carry gas from the pipeline's terminus in Chatham, Virginia, into North Carolina, with construction slated to begin in 2026 and completion by mid-2028. |
