MountainSafeER: Increasing safety and awareness in mountain sports in the region

ended

As mountain landscapes have become more accessible, there is a constant increase of people engaging in mountain sports activities all over Europe. This trend was further enhanced by the COVID pandemic in the last years. These sport activities are ranging from hiking, trail running, mountaineering, rock climbing, alpine skiing, snowboarding to backcountry skiing and skimountaineering. Although these activities are all associated with health benefits, they also come with a high risk of injury or even death. However -especially in countries with less Alpine tradition, like the project countries, Hungary, Croatia and Romania- the necessary background knowledge in health and safety and on outdoor lifestyle related environmental protection issues is often missing. Thus the main focus of the project is to train, share good practices and discuss potential new methods on how to increase health and safety awareness related to these sports, to enhance knowledge on their health-enhancing effects, to educate on related environmental protection issues and to continue developing a network of European organizations focusing on these sports in the region.
