Mozambique - Education III Project

The Education III Project (Basic Education Improvement) is a follow-up to two earlier similar projects in the sector. The focus of the project is on primary teacher education to be able to cope with the growing number of schools with a view to improving the quality of basic education. It is also aimed at increasing the coverage and efficiency of the education system through improved access and improved quality of basic education particularly in the deprived rural areas. By expanding access to, and improving the quality of, basic education, especially in deprived rural areas, the project will contribute to an increased coverage and efficiency of the education system, which will primarily benefit grassroots, including the underprivileged populations groups in rural areas. The project will be implemented over a period of 4 years, beginning in January 1999.
