Mozambique - Education IV Project

The Education IV Project is designed to contribute to the improvement of access, efficiency and quality of lower secondary and technical/vocational education. It is especially important as the Education Sector Strategic Program (ESSP) activities are expected to help to lowering repetition and drop-out rates and increasing the number of primary graduates seeking secondary education. In a bid to contribute to the improvement of the internal and external efficiency of the education system in Mozambique, the project should, on the one hand help to decrease repetition and drop-out rates through the use of qualified and effective teachers, appropriate textbooks and suitable mechanisms for monitoring the dynamics of the labour market with implications for improving curricula. In this regard, the project should rehabilitate 6 lower secondary schools (2 in each of 3 selected provinces) and construct 2 new ones, and on the other, provide opportunities for students in the basic technical and vocational education sub-system to pursue early career avenues in the context of constantly updated job-oriented curricula. To ensure that the education system maintains and consolidates its level of efficiency, the project should contribute to the streamlining of educational management by strengthening a number of decentralized structures. The project components are as follows: 1) Lower Secondary Education; 2) Basic Technical and Vocational Education; 3) Decentralisation of Education Management; and 4) Project Management.
