Description
Description | The Niassa Provincial Towns Water and Sanitation Project presents a next step of AfDB’s involvement in the water sector of Mozambique. This is a standalone investment operation and institutional support for the on-going sector reforms to assist in reaching the MDGs. The project fulfils the country wide effort in Mozambique to upgrade urban water supply and sanitation infrastructure as part of the country’s reconstruction activities since the cessation of hostilities in the eighties. Niassa Province was selected because it is one of the least developed in investment terms, compared with other Provinces. It will focus on urban water supply and sanitation since one of the on-going Bank project, addresses the needs of the rural people in the same province. It includes institutional development support, water supply scheme rehabilitation and extension, sanitation program and project management and audit. It will be implemented over a period of four years at a total cost of UA 20 million. |
