Mozambique - Telecommunications II Project

The project is part of the first phase of the Mozambique Telecommunications Development Programme, aimed at re-establishing and improving the telecommuni- cation services in the country. The project will re-establish the long distance telecommunication services in the country; assist the inland locked neighbouring countries to get quick information about their imports and exports in addition to providing good telephone service in that city. The major components proposed are: (i) the provision of new and extension of exiting telephone services in the Port city of Beira; (ii) the rehabilitation of the most important transmission system in the country (the tropospheric scatter links). The Development components consists of the supply and installation of Switching and Line Plants equipment in the Greater Beira area plus training technicians and maintenance support. The Rehabilitation component consists of the rehabilitation of the Whole Troposcatter system plus associated equipment in the country plus training of technicians. When this project is completed, it will start generating a substantial amount of revenue immediately even if the other parts of the phase are delayed.
