Description

Description

The present intervention concerns the Urban Water Supply, Sanitation & Institutional Support Project. It address water supply and sanitation services in Mozambique that are characterized by low coverage, poor service quality and weak financial and institutional sustainability. The Project supports the broader goal of poverty reduction, improved health and development by decentralization as well as supporting involvement of the private sector in development. It was approved on the strength of its economic and social benefits as well as the expectation that the investment was both financially and economically viable and sustainable in the long term. Inadequate access to water is a major challenge to Mozambique’s economic development and social well-being. The project comprises the following four (4) components: i) Water Supply Infrastructure (Rehabilitation and Extension); ii) Sanitation Program; iii) Institutional Support, and iv) Project Management.
