Mozambique – Tanzania Interconnector Project

This operation is a grant not exceeding US$1,995,000 to Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) on behalf of the national power utilities, EDM and TANESCO for the purpose of conducting the pre-investment technical and environmental studies on the Mozambique–Tanzania (MOTA) Interconnector Project. The 400kV Palma (Mozambique)–Mtwara (Tanzania) power transmission line development project to interconnect the two countries was first initiated by both national power utilities in 2002. The proposed studies for the technical, economic, financial and environmental feasibility studies will include detailed designs for transmission lines, substations and associated infrastructure as well as recommend an appropriate project implementation structure. In addition, the studies will include the development of Tender Documents that will be issued to EPC Contractors through an international competitive bidding process in line with the requirements of international funders and investors.
