Description
Description | This project is Phase I of a comprehensive multi-phased program that aims to reduce the impacts of recurrent natural hazards and strengthen the capacity of cities in Mozambique to protect and boost jobs. MozResilience-I will support the recovery and reconstruction of urban infrastructure while strengthening institutional capacity to attract investments and protect and create jobs in Greater Maputo and selected secondary cities. Mozambique’s cities generate over half of national GDP and serve as critical engines of employment and economic transformation. However, recurrent floods and climate‑related shocks continue to damage urban infrastructure, disrupt economic activity, and undermine investor confidence. The MPA approach provides a jobs‑focused and resilience‑oriented response that transitions from emergency recovery to transformational urban investments, aligned with the World Bank Group Country Partnership Framework for Mozambique (FY26–31).The project combines resilient infrastructure investments with strengthened emergency preparedness, governance, municipal finance, and service delivery. Together, these interventions address immediate flood recovery needs while building the institutional and physical foundations required for sustained, inclusive, and private‑sector‑led growth. |
