Description

In November 2008, the Mpanga 18 MW “run of the river” hydro electric power project reached financial closure under a 20-year BOT contract. The project was awarded to South Asia Energy Management Systems (United States) by the government of Uganda through direct negotiation. The date of the award was unclear from public sources. South Asia Energy Management Systems signed a 20 year PPA with the Electricity Regulatory Authority to feed its energy into the main grid. The project was financed by a US$14 million loan from the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund (EAIF). The plant became operational in Feb 2011.
