Mriya Agro Holding (“the Company”) is a family business, founded in 1992 and run by the Huta family (the “Sponsors”). The Company is one of the largest Ukrainian primary agricultural producers with a proven track record of growing wheat, sugar beet, barley, rape seed, maize and potatoes. Its operations are concentrated in Western Ukraine in the Ternopil, Khmelnytskiy, Chernivtsi and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. From 1992 to 2009, Mriya expanded its land under cultivation from 50 ha to 150,000 ha. Mriya operates two grain storage elevators/silos, a seed plant and controls the operation of six sugar plants. The sugar plants are auxiliary facilities to agricultural operations that Sponsors maintain to support cultivation of sugar beet which improves crop rotation and is a source of additional value. IFC investment will support Mriya in significant expanding the scope of its agricultural operations. The proposed Project is to (i) acquire additional land lease rights and/or acquire existing local land operators to increase the land under cultivation to approximately 275,000 ha in 2011, (ii) expand infrastructure through the construction of three grain storage silos with a total capacity of 300,000 mt, purchase additional agricultural machinery, and (iii) increase working capital. These investments will enable the Company to handle an increased grain and sugar beet production and improve the efficiency of the operations. In addition, IFC may be able to contribute advisory services related to energy efficiency and cleaner production.
