IFC is proposing a US$4 million investment in Series A preferred shares in MTI Environment Group Ltd (“the Company” or “MTI”), a Cayman Island-based company, which is a holding company for a group of US and Chinese operating companies.MTI is a Beijing-based engineering procurement and construction (EPC) company focused on servicing the solid waste handling, composting and disposal sector in China. The company also has experience in providing EPC services for wastewater treatment and odor control. The company''s acquisition of BacTee, an experienced US sludge treatment and odor control company brings technical expertise and good practice to the company. The company is currently headquartered in Beijing, China. It has EPC projects in Sichuan, Henan and Heilongjiang provinces in China, and numerous sludge treatment and odor control projects spread across China. The company does not own any assets, and its scope of services is strictly limited to post construction commissioning activities prior to handover of facilities to clients. MTI will be restricted solely to providing EPC services to the sector, and will not own or operate waste treatment / associated facilities.
