Description

Description

Deakin University’s Institute for Frontier Materials (IFM) partnered with fashion retailer Country Road to launch a research project that transforms low-grade Merino wool into high-value yarn using entirely domestic processes. The project aims to revitalise Australian textile manufacturing by enabling end-to-end onshore production, including spinning short Merino wool fibres into fine yarn suitable for garments. The initiative is supported by a grant from the Country Road Climate Fund and involves partners Full Circle Fibres and Loomtex. The project has secured additional funding for a three-year research partnership to expand wool-cotton textile development and has produced prototype garments signaling potential for sustainable, locally made fashion in Australia.
