Description | The Mukundra Tunnel is part of the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway under the Bharatmala Project, passing through the Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve. It is a 4.9-kilometre-long twin-tube tunnel designed with advanced features including AI-based traffic monitoring, controlled environment with air circulation, SCADA system, AI-enabled cameras, and advanced fire safety systems. The tunnel is constructed using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) and includes both drilled and artificial sections to protect wildlife. It is designed for a lifespan of 100 years and will be operated and maintained by the construction company for five years. |
