Description | The multi-level car parking (MLCP) facility at Palayam in Thiruvananthapuram is the state's largest, with a capacity to accommodate 300 cars. It was set up by Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Ltd (SCTL) and opened to the public last year as a solution to the city's worsening parking problems. Despite its capacity and a parking fee of ₹30 per hour, the facility remains underutilised, with occupancy rarely crossing 50%. Motorists prefer parking on roadsides or nearby yards, partly due to reluctance to use the automatic parking system which takes 2-3 minutes to park and retrieve vehicles. The civic body continues to allow roadside pay-and-park, which adds to congestion. |
