Description

Description

This project intends to complement current road projects by financing climate-resilient upgrades or rehabilitation of selected priority multimodal transport and logistics infrastructure in line with Madagascar's 2024-2039 National Transport Plan. It aims to improve connectivity among major international and domestic transport corridors, to contribute to a more efficient business environment, lower transport costs, increase resilience, and enhance security and safety compliance at secondary airports. The project focuses on: (i) the Tananarive-Tamatave corridor through railway rehabilitation and construction of a logistics platform near Antananarivo to manage heavy traffic entering the city; (ii) the RN4 (National Road 4) and RN7 corridors via the rehabilitation of the ports of Majunga and Tulear; (iii) rehabilitation of key sections of the Pangalanes canal; and (iv) improvements to infrastructure at key secondary airports. It also includes institutional capacity building for public transport entities, with attention to strengthening oversight and coordination and streamlining regulatory procedures to promote governance and competition across modes of transport.
