Description

Description

The Busega-Mpigi & Kagitumba-Kayonza-Rusumo Roads Project aims to support regional integration and economic cooperation between Uganda and Rwanda. It will promote the Governments' efforts into reducing poverty through improvement of road infrastructure in the two countries by providing all weather access for the supply of farm inputs and evacuation of produce to major market centers, thus improving the level of service and efficiency of the road network. The project's components from Uganda side is the improvement of the Kampala-Mpigi Road, 24 km located in Central Uganda, from the present two lane highway to a dual carriageway highway. From Rwanda side, the project comprises the rehabilitation of the Kagitumba-Kayonza road located along the northern corridor linking with Uganda at Mirama Hills/Kagitumba and the 92 km section from Kayonza-Rusumo linking to Tanzania on central corridor. The expected project outcomes are: improved transport services (reductions in vehicle operating costs and travel time); improved processing time for clearance of imports and exports, and improved safety.
