The Uvira-Bukavu road project is divided into two lots; the first lot “Kalundu Port Uvira - Luberizi section, (50km) secured financing for its feasibility studies which are close to completion. The second lot “LuberiziKamanyola-Bukavu Road (89 km)” is the subject of this operation, seeking financing for its feasibility studies. Its implementation will open up the town of Bukavu (tourist town) and its hinterland to the sub-region for regional and international trade. Additionally, it will reduce poverty by enhancing trade and transportation of goods, services, ensure increased socio-economic exchanges between the DRC, and its neighboring countries of Rwanda and Burundi, increasing the flow of traffic on the NR 5 between Bukavu and Uvira, and reducing the cost of transportation of goods, facilitating access to basic social services. The estimated overall duration of the studies is 24 months from Grant Approval.
