Description

Description

The proposed intervention concerns the financing of preparatory activities for the construction of a deep-water port for mineral and commercial activities at Buba in the southern region of Guinea-Bissau. The project is part of the AfDB-led Lusophone Compact and is an integral part of the Strategy for the Development of Mineral Resources and the Opening up of the Internal Regions of Guinea-Bissau. In addition, it is in line with the Priority Action Plan of the Program for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PAP-PIDA) under program T.16 on the development of port and rail hubs in West Africa. This project aims to facilitate the export of Guinea-Bissau products, particularly bauxite and other mining products, and to improve their competitiveness. It is of key importance for the development of West Africa because of its strong integrating power and the increase in intra-community trade that will result from its implementation. The activities supported by the Bank (FPPI-NEPAD) within the framework of this operation are based on six major components: (a) Technical studies and PPP structuring; (b) Project management; (c) Capacity building; (d) Marketing and commercialization of the project; (e) Donors' round table, and (f) Audit. These activities are expected to improve the maturity of the project. The total cost of the preparatory activities amounts to US$ 2329355. The estimated overall duration of the planned activities is twelve (12) months from the date of mobilization of the consultancy firm.
