Description
Description | The proposed intervention relates to the Feasibility study of a deep sea port in the north-west region of the Republic of Guinea. This project is in line with the Mining Development Policy implemented by the Guinean Government, which provides, among other things, for the training of a qualified workforce in mining-related trades and the promotion of local employment in the mining sector. The study aims at determining the best technical, economic, financial and socio-environmental option for the development of the envisaged port platform. The construction of the port will, among other things, make it possible to (i) improve the competitiveness of Guinea's export products; (ii) broaden and integrate the Guinean market with the markets of neighbouring countries (Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, Mali, Côte d'Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone) and, consequently, facilitate and strengthen intra-community trade within ECOWAS; (iii) open up Guinea's inland regions that do not have direct access to a seafront; (iv) reduce the cost of transporting goods and generate economies of scale; (v) boost the productivity and competitiveness of West African economies; (vi) attract more private investment to the region; and (vii) improve the living conditions of the populations living in the area of influence of the planned infrastructure. The development of the planned port platform will also improve the competitiveness of Guinea's export products. |
