Multinational - Feasibility Study on the Extension of the Cameroon-Chad Railway Line (Chad)

The purpose of this project is to carry out a railway study between N'Gaoundéré and N'Djamena. This study is part of the railway interconnection project between N'Gaoundéré and Ndjamena and will complete the multimodal framework of the transport chain between the two countries. The project is the result of the will of the Cameroonian and Chadian governments to complete the Douala - N'Djamena railway corridor by the construction of the railway section linking N'Gaoundéré in Cameroon to N'Djamena, the capital of Chad. The integration of the two countries' infrastructure networks (Cameroon and Chad) is of vital importance as it allows for the establishment of common and coherent platforms for the different modes of transport. It also ensures greater inter-connectivity and increased mobility of factors of production as well as multi-faceted trade flows as prerequisites for the establishment of true integration. The purpose of the study is to establish the socio-economic viability of the railway and to determine the best solution from the technical and economic points of view, while taking into account the institutional, social and environmental conditions. The duration of the study project is 36 months at an estimated total cost of UA 4,000 million, including activities related to the establishment of technical assistance and the functioning of the management bodies. The study project is fully funded from ADF resources.
