Description

Description

The project encompasses the support of NewAfrica Impact’s (NAI) Drobonso and Yoni Combined Heat and Power Bioenergy (CHPB) plants in Ghana (180 km north of Accra) and Sierra Leone (120 km east of Freetown), with each one having an installed capacity of 5 MWe (electric) and 11 MWth (thermal). The project will rely on the proven biomass combustion technology, which has according to a recent Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) funded study a much higher success rate than gasification or anaerobic digestion. Both plants will use forestry residues such as wood chips, sawdust, off-cuts, round logs and residuals as feedstock. The feedstock will be provided by a forestry company with all its established acreages being certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, being the world leading standard for sustainable forestry management.
