Multinational - OMVS (Mali-Mauritania-Senegal): Manantali Energy Project

The Manantali Energy Project is still a priority for the OMVS member states and is consistent with the Bank’s strategic objective of promoting economic integration within its member countries. This project, which will ensure least cost electrical energy supply, is in keeping with the Bank's strategic vision for the development of the regional member countries. The project is a high priority for the three countries concerned. The economies of these three countries (Mali, Mauritania, Senegal) are severely penalized by the high cost of electricity produced mainly from imported fossil fuels the supply of which is not secure. This project should serve as an example of success of efforts aimed at regional integration of basic infrastructure.
