Multinational - Preparation of the Ruzizi Plain Regional Integrated Development Programme (PREDIR)

The present project essentially consists in preparatory studies for the elaboration of the Regional Development Program for the Ruzizi Plain (PREDIR). It includes the following components: (i) Elaborating a Master Plan for integrated and sustainable development across the plain in the three countries of the Economic Community of the Great Lakes Countries (ECGLC), which should lead to development guidelines for the plain over the next 20 to 30 years, conducting feasibility development studies/Project Summary Note (PSN) over a maximum priority area of 20,000 ha of irrigation perimeter (rehabilitation, creation), elaborating detailed engineering design studies on selected perimeters and preparing tender files; (ii) Conducting a strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (SESA) of all sectors involved in the Master Plan. Once detailed designs are validated through donors round tables in the water and agriculture sectors, it is expected that by the end of the Project the necessary investment funding to achieve the priority civil works for the development of the plain will be raised. The total cost is estimated at EUR 2 024 157, of which EUR 1 969 516 are financed by the FAE, or 97.30%.
