Description | This study which will lead to the rehabilitation of the Arusha-Namanga-Athi River Trunk Road. vThe road traverses Tanzania, from Arusha to Namanga (105 km), and Kenya, from Athi River to Namanga (137 km) and forms part of the corridor No. 5 of the East African Community Regional Road Network Project which spans from Tunduma in southern Tanzania to Moyale in northern Kenya, and links Dodoma in Tanzania with Nairobi in Kenya. The implementation of the project is part of the strategy of the EAC to deepen economic cooperation and foster regional integration among member states of the community. The road is important for tourism and promotion of agricultural production by small farmers in the road corridor area thereby enhancing their incomes. The project road will deepen economic integration between Kenya and Tanzania by helping to eliminate physical barriers to cross-border trade and production factor flows. It comprises: Phase 1: (i) Updating of the Feasibility Study and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) along the Arusha to Namanga section (105 km); (ii) Feasibility Study and ESIA and preliminary design along the Namanga-Athi River Road section (137 km); and Phase 2: Detailed engineering design and preparation of tender documents for the viable options for the Arusha-Namanga-Athi River Road adopted by the clients. |
