Multinational - The Gambia River Basin Development Organization Energy Project (OMVG) - Guinea Bissau

The Gambia River Organization for Development (OMVG) Energy Project covers the following four countries: The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and Senegal. This sub-regional organization is the executing agency of the integrated development programs in the region and focuses, in particular, on the rational management of the common resources of the Gambia, Kayanga-Geba and Koliba-Corubal Rivers. The basins of these rivers offer the possibility of producing energy. The energy project has two main components: (i) the Sambangalou hydroelectric development located partly in Senegal and partly in Guinea, (ii) the interconnection line which crosses the four OMVG countries. It is planned a duration of 4 years for the realization of the works. The establishment of these infrastructures should make it possible to produce and distribute electricity in the 4 OMVG member countries in order to respond to demand at the request of the population, to promote economic development and to contribute to their independence from fossil fuels.
