Multinational - The Microfinance Initiative for Africa (AMINA) project

The ADF Microfinance Initiative for Africa (AMINA) is a two-year pilot program designed to strengthen the institutional capacity of microfinance institutions (MFIs), to enable them deliver efficiently financial services to the poor, especially women. Microfinance is an effective tool for poverty in all the countries selected for the AMINA pilot initiative. In these countries (Ethiopia, Tanzania, Cameroon, Chad, Mauritania, Malawi, Mozambique, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde and Ghana), Microfinance institutions operate with diverse levels of outreach and technical and managerial capacities, and also in diverse environments. As a result, AMINA strategies will vary from the country to another, depending on the microfinance environment specific to each of these countries. Capacity building of MFIs, collaboration with other donors, such as Consultative Group to Assist the Poorest (CGAP) and MicroStart, networking for information collection and dissemination, harmonization with other ADB interventions in the field of microfinance, constitute the core elements of the AMINA program strategies.
