Multinational - The New Dawn Satellite Project

The New Dawn Satellite Project was initiated by two South African equity investors Convergence Partners and Altirah Capital together with Intelsat, the global leader in the provision and operation of satellite systems. The project aligns with Bank’s ICT and PSO strategy, the South African CSP, and the long-term development priorities of the South African Government. It responds to a strong demand for satellite supply capacity, driven by efforts of mobile operators to expand their networks to underserved areas, support businesses and remote communities, and boost socioeconomic development. The project comprises the design, construction, launch and operation of a panAfrican communications satellite system into the 33o East orbital location, ideally positioned to serve the African continent. The total cost is USD 250m.
