Multinational – Feasibility Study for the Nsongezi Hydropower Plant

The Nsongezi Hydropower feasibility study project aims at investigating and producing a detailed technical, economic assessment of the proposed Nsongezi site, for the delivery of a detailed feasibility study report which will be aligned to an environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) study that will be conducted. The Nsongezi Hydro Power Project (HPP) was identified as a priority project by East Africa Community (EAC). It is among the Heads of State Infrastructure priority projects. This is a greenfield project for which the feasibility study will include the preparation of specifications and tender documentation as well as a financial-economic study that will lead to the financing, procurement, and construction of the power plant and associated transmission infrastructure. The project aligns well with the objectives and operational priorities of the NEPAD-IPPF and will increase the stock of bankable projects available to investment. The estimated overall duration of the studies is about twenty-four (24) calendar months, post procurement process. The total cost is estimated at USD US$ 1,141,618. Of this amount, NEPAD-IPPF will provide a non-reimbursable grant of US$ 1,083,618 (95%). Project Sponsor contribution (EAC) is US$ 58,000 (5%) (cash contribution). The use of NEPAD-IPPF grant funding to investigate the Nsongezi site will contribute to reduced cost on the project sponsor’s cost of developing the project.
