Multinational -Study on the creation of a Regional Economic Community for the General Secretariat of the Arab Maghreb Union

This project concerns the study on the creation of a Regional Economic Community for the General Secretariat of the Arab Maghreb Union. In order to achieve the objective of creating a regional economic community for the countries of the UMA, the study will focus on: (i) The analysis of the economic structures and economic policies of the WBU countries; (ii) The identification of the assets and benefits of the creation of the REC as well as the institutional, legal and economic measures to be taken; (iii) The identification of integration approaches in perspectives of the creation of the REC: sectoral, institutional and global through the reform of the national frameworks with the objective of facilitating the free movement of the factors of production and redefining the role of AMU bodies in the perspective of creating the REC for the countries of the region. The main expected results are: (i) a diagnosis of the potential of the VMA countries in terms of integration (ii) the identification of promising sectors, the corrections to be made to economic policies and the regulatory and legal framework for integration (iii) the assessment of integration gains and the impact on the well-being of the population in the region; (vi) the proposal for a sequencing of implementation of integration reforms; timeline and an action plan; and (y) providing the SG and policy makers with a roadmap for mainstreaming.
