Description
Description | The feasibility study of Isaka-Kigali railway project is within the framework of the policy implemented by Tanzania and Rwanda to develop internal and external communications with a view to contributing to poverty reduction. The study shall enable the Tanzanian and Rwandan Governments to have data and decision-making instruments enabling them to determine the feasibility of the proposed railway project. This concerns a line of 450 km in length of which 275 km are in Tanzanian territory and 175 km in Rwandan territory. The study shall be conducted in a single phase and shall comprise; a review of the existing rail infrastructure of the Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) and in particular the Dar Es Salaam-Isaka link; the engineering design of the different alignment options for the rail link between Isaka and Kigali and their cost estimates; the preliminary study on the environmental and social impact (EIESP) of the project; the study on the economic and financial feasibility of the project; analysis of the institutional and operational framework of the present railway line; analysis of the involvement of the private sector in financing works and the management of railway infrastructures (in concessionary form, “BOOT”, management contracts etc.). The estimated cost, excluding taxes, levies and customs duty, is USD 2.60 million, or UA 1.75 million. The duration of all the activities relating to the study is 25 months, including 13 months for the conduct of the study including approval time for the reports. |
