The project supports the Malawian government in implementing the Scaling Up Nutrition Initiative (SUN) and the First 1,000 Days program, which began in 2011, with a financial contribution of a further EUR 9 million. The project duration of the second phase is five years (beginning in 2018). The target group is primarily pregnant women, infants and young children, as well as women of reproductive age. In line with the SUN initiative, a package of measures is being implemented in the project districts, which includes: - Supply of micronutrients and medication for the prevention and treatment of nutrition-related diseases. - Multisectoral measures to change behavior in the sense of better nutrition for pregnant women, mothers and young children, including in the areas of hygiene and health. The package of measures will be implemented in two further districts (Nsanje and Phalombe) in Phase II. Furthermore, the supply of micronutrients in these districts and in the previous project district of Lilongwe will be ensured across the board for a period of 5 years.
