The supply gap for electrical energy in Gaza is around 75% and affects the operation of critical infrastructure and the standard of living in Gaza. In addition, an adequate water supply is a core problem in Gaza, which is being counteracted by the use of seawater desalination plants. However, the operation of the small-volume northern desalination plant (NSTLV) in Gaza requires a continuous supply

Description

Description

The supply gap for electrical energy in Gaza is around 75% and affects the operation of critical infrastructure and the standard of living in Gaza. In addition, an adequate water supply is a core problem in Gaza, which is being counteracted by the use of seawater desalination plants. However, the operation of the small-volume northern desalination plant (NSTLV) in Gaza requires a continuous supply of stable electricity (24/7), which is currently not guaranteed by the power grid. The project promotes electricity generation from renewable energy sources, which results in fewer greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, energy independence in Gaza is increased and energy sources are diversified. An alternative power supply concept (solar power) for the NSTLV in Gaza increases the reliability of the drinking water supply and reduces operating costs. The aim of the project is to support a more reliable, efficient and climate-friendly operation of the public infrastructure in Gaza. Two PV systems with a total of up to 18 MWP will be installed and training measures will be carried out. The project is being implemented with the Palestinian Energy Authority (PENRA) as the project sponsor, and in close cooperation with the energy supplier in Gaza (GEDCO) and the Palestinian Water Authority (PWA). The target group in the broader sense is the population in Gaza, who will benefit from an improved energy supply, as well as around 250,000 people who will benefit from an improved drinking water supply through the desalination plant.
