Description | The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) plans to construct a 16-km-long tunnel as part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. This tunnel is a single tube tunnel of 13.1 m diameter to accommodate twin tracks, located between Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Sawli near Ghansoli in Maharashtra. It includes the country's first 7-km-long undersea stretch beneath Thane Creek. The tunnel will be about 25 to 57 meters deep from ground level, with the deepest point 114 m below Parsik hill. Two Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) have been received, and tunnelling operations are set to begin after testing and commissioning. Three shafts have been constructed for lowering the TBMs. A dedicated casting yard in Mahape, Thane district, is operational for casting tunnel lining segments. |
