Description

Description

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor, also known as the bullet train project, achieved a breakthrough of a 4.88 km tunnel connecting Ghansoli and Shilphata in Maharashtra. This tunnel is part of a planned 21 km tunnel between Bandra-Kurla Complex in Mumbai and Shilphata. The project covers 508 km across Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, with 12 stations and an operational speed of 320 km/h. The project started in December 2017 and has faced delays due to protests and legal issues related to land acquisition. The tunnel breakthrough marks the completion of a critical phase of tunnel building and allows the project to move into final stages such as waterproofing, lining, and equipment installation. The project is funded 80% by Japan and is expected to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to 2 hours and 7 minutes.
