Description | A 4.88 km-long tunnel between Shilphata and Ghansoli for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project has achieved breakthrough. The tunnel excavation was carried out simultaneously from both sides through challenging underwater terrain using the New Austrian Tunnel Method (NATM). This tunnel is part of a 21 km underground stretch including a 7-km segment beneath Thane Creek. The project includes advanced engineering innovations such as single tunnel technology to accommodate two bullet trains and deployment of 40-meter girders in viaduct construction. The first phase of the high-speed corridor on the Surat-Bilimora section is planned to start in December 2027. |
