The tunnel is part of a 21 km underground stretch between Bandra-Kurla Complex and Shilphata, including a 7 km segment beneath Thane Creek. Excavation began in May 2024 using the New Austrian Tunnel Method (NATM) and involved drilling, blasting, and support systems under challenging geological conditions. The tunnel will be a single-tube, 13.1-metre diameter structure accommodating twin tracks for both up and down lines. The project also includes viaducts, bridges, and installation of noise barriers and overhead equipment masts along the corridor. |
