Description | The Mumbai - Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR) includes India's first 21 km long tunnel, with 7 km under the sea. NHSRCL signed an agreement with Afcons Infrastructure for the construction of this undersea tunnel. The tunnel will be a single tube structure accommodating twin tracks, with underground stations at Bandra-Kurla Complex and Shilphata. Three tunnel boring machines will be used for 16 km of the tunnel, and the remaining 5 km will be constructed using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM). The tunnel will run from a depth of 25 to 65 meters from ground level. Preliminary work has started near Bandra-Kurla station, and more than 60 km of viaduct in Gujarat has been completed. Trial runs of the bullet train are expected between Surat and Bilimora in 2026. |
