Description | The Mumbai - Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR) includes India's first 21 km long tunnel, with 7 km under the sea. NHSRCL signed an agreement with Afcons Infrastructure for the construction of this undersea tunnel. The tunnel will be a single tube structure with twin tracks, located at Thane Creek near Mumbai, with underground stations at Bandra-Kurla Complex and Shilphata. Three tunnel boring machines will be used for 16 km of the tunnel, and the remaining 5 km will use the New Austrian Tunnelling Method. The tunnel depth will range from 25 to 65 meters from ground level. More than 60 km of viaduct in Gujarat has been completed, and preliminary work has started near Bandra-Kurla station. Trial runs are anticipated between Surat and Bilimora in 2026. |
