Barely nine weeks after inauguration, the project suffered a major monsoon disruption due to a landslide damaging a retaining structure near Tunnel 2, leading to closure of the Pune-to-Mumbai carriageway. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) attributed the incident to exceptionally heavy rainfall, calling it an "act of God" rather than a construction flaw.
