Information Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation Ltd.[MRVC] has come up with Mumbai Urban Transport Project [MUTP] - PHASE II with a ticket size of 8087.11 INR Crores. This project in Railway Track sub-sector involves The current status of the project is Notice to Proceed and is being developed through the EPC route. Economic/Social Impact of the Project The project is amalgamation of many works required for augmenting and strengthening of Mumbai Suburban Railway infrastructure. The major works are addition of 88 track kilometres, 72 new 12 car rakes, DC to AC conversion on central railway, resettlement & rehabilitation of more than 2500 project affected households. The project will improve safety and reliability standards of existing systems, social upgradation of slum dwellers by resettling them in proper house, upgradation of passenger amenities, energy conservation by introduction of regenerative electric braking in CMU trains to obtain carbon credits etc. The project has been bifurcated in two parts [MUTP 2A & 2B]. MUTP 2A has been completed. The works under MUTP 2B are funded by both Government Maharashtra and Ministry of Railways on 50-50 basis. The major works under MUTP 2B are- [i] 5th & 6th line between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus [CSMT] - Kurla [ii] 5th & 6th line between Thane Diva [iii] Extension of Harbour line [iv] 6th line between Mumbai Central - Borivali [v] Resettlement and Rehabilitation Under Construction-5th and 6th line between CSMT-Kurla being executed by Central Railway is targeted to be completed by March 25 and physical progress of the work is 25 percentage, 6th line Mumbai Central-Borivali being executed by Western Railway is targeted to be completed by March 2025 and physical progress of the work is 65 percentage Commissioned- MUTP II bifurcated as MUTP 2A and 2B. MUTP 2A completed by December 2016. Under MUTP 2B, Extension of Harbour line between Andheri-Goregaon completed in December 2017, Station improvement, trespass work completed in December 2018 and 5th and 6th line Thane-Diva completed in February 2022.
