Description | The project involves the construction of India's first undersea tunnel for a rail corridor beneath Thane Creek in Maharashtra as part of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project. The tunnel section includes a 10 km stretch with 7 km undersea, constructed using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs). The TBM used is a large Mixshield type, semi-automatic, slurry-based machine designed to minimize ground settlement and surface disruption in the urban Mumbai Suburban sector. A 39-meter deep shaft was constructed at Sawli for TBM launch, and the tunnel is designed as a fully waterproof structure with advanced monitoring and safety systems. |
